Biography:
I decided to stop shouting at the radio during the Jeremy Vine show and start doing something. I was becoming more and more concerned about the 'nanny state' and, as I have small children, I was increasingly worried about the legacy the current government was leaving for them. Being involved is gritty and motivating, particularly when you see your hard work pay off. It is deeply satisfying to be in a position to get things moving when you come across an issue that affects the community around you. And being able to help individuals and groups in the community is completely fantastic. Rebecca, aged 38, has lived near the park for 6 years and has two young children who attend local school and nursery. She started her career helping the long term unemployed with the Employment Service in the early 90s before working to promote science to school children, supporting schools and teachers. She worked in for many years in marketing and communications for businesses and legal and accountancy practices, before setting up her own small consultancy. Rebecca plays a number of musical instruments and has sung in numerous groups and choirs. She enjoys travel widely and has studied for and gained a game ranger certificate in South Africa. She sails and has achieved her International Certificate of Competence as a skipper. She enjoys wine and good food and has done a couple of wine tasting courses. She enjoys the theatre and is a member of the theatre in Northampton. She also writes articles for a variety of publications. She is a member of the Royal Yachting Association and the Institute of Directors in Northampton. Rebecca is also a business mentor for the Princes Trust in Northampton, helping young and disadvantaged people. She has also supported the National Childbirth Trust in Abington. Areas of interest include Museums and arts, education, countryside, nursery schools, schools, care for people with disabilities, Libraries and archives
