Andy Mercer has lived in Rushden since 1977. His four children were all educated locally. He is a Rushden Town Councillor and the Leader of East
Northants District Council.
Andy was born in East London and went to Exeter University, where he earnt his Doctorate. After a spell in management consultancy, he moved to Northamptonshire to work for Texas Instruments. He currently runs a software company that he founded in 1985, and which now trades worldwide.
He is a Chartered Engineer, a Chartered Statistician, a Chartered IT Professional, a Fellow of the Royal Statistical Society, a Member of the British Computer Society, and a European Engineer (Eur Ing).
Elected as a Conservative County Councillor for the division of Rushden East in May 2005, Andy sits on the following Committees:
IRMP Sub-Committee, East Northamptonshire Area Committee, Public Protection Scrutiny Committee, and the Community Services Scrutiny Committee.
He is a school governor and often campaigns on local issues.
He feels strongly that the public deserves high quality public Services, and that politicians have duty to provide them. In particular, he wants to see improved services for children and the elderly.
